Sauk County Historical Society Sauk County Historical Society

Military Room
This is the smallest bedroom of the house. In 1934 after the death of his mother, Martha Van Orden, Lucas Schuyler Van Orden moved into the mansion with his wife and small son. Unfortunately only a few years later, he also died. His widow, Florence, rented out rooms in the mansion including this one. Later in 1938 she sold the mansion to the Sauk County Historical Society and moved to the cottage next door.

Today this room features artifacts pertaining to the military history of Sauk County. The Civil War, Spanish American War, World War One and World War Two are all represented here. Also found in this room is a portion of the Society's extensive collection of G.A.R. materials.
